| I thought it was a fine piece of tv. It was different from the standard fringe fare, true (hah! we've become so jaded! Standard Fringe fare!), but it was very suspenseful, showed us more of Broyles and of Walter--of Walter working, that was well done--and finally opened up the idea of fringe science (and its misuses) in other countries. Expanding their sphere. It was a bit disappointing, Josh-wise/Peter wise, but he is no longer the sarcastic outsider, he's fully invested. They need to up their genius game for him though, I'm no electronics tech but I could tell the man had been soldering something electronic. And I'm so glad to have seen more of Broyles, and to understand more of why he is part of things.
I loved the echoes of the X-files, and of the Twilight Zone--laughed at myself, this is where we've come--all this stuff that would shock in other shows, hey, we're into it. Fringe is making a serious move towards melding B-science fiction with A-science fiction (not camp but kitsch, and I use that word happily--blended with current day science.) They made a fine episode I think. And--four years ago, when Fringe Div had fallen out of favor.....and the creepy CIA guy at the end...loving it. Back story without resorting to time travel.
The mind control thing they showed in the prevue at the end--that is disturbingly like an X-files though, the one where Mulder is nearly forced to shoot Scully....I like homage, I am not sure I like replay.
We are having a storm tonight, and the tower where the repeater is on the mountain above me is really being battered by high winds------------so the picture, and the audio, was often interrupted. When Walter is telling the story about the logs in the fireplace at Christmas....can someone give me a verbatim on that?
And Walter donning the flak jacket--they must've cut some stuff out there, it felt choppy--- and didn't explain why he had one and Peter didn't (unless Peter knows he is impervious to gunshots?).
I saw instances of reflections, I am sure there were ryb and gggr, and b& w, but I didn't notice them. And I didn't see September----------but I did see a man at the grocery store tonight that looked almost exactly like the newly reheaded villain, gave me a jolt.
I'm sure the hardcore myth or die crowd is whining tonight, but I thought it was an exciting episode.
Yoo hoo, Cathy dear......are you there?

| I'll give you the missing pieces when i'll get back. It was....weird. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. I thought we would wait a bit longer before having a face on the mystery man.... I think it was the alien Ausiello was referring too, maybe ? The russian guy looked so like Jones ! I love the sculptures in the first victime's apartment. I loved how Olivia stood in front of Walter and asked him about the formula. Love Peter helping Walter with the bulletproof jacket. Love Martouf at the end ! | |

| To me, the episode was okay. It wasn't one that I wanted to rush back and rewatch on the DVR (like I have the rest of the episodes this season). I was glad to have a new episode and I feel like the hype after such a delay wasn't up to the expectations I had. I remember someone in an interview saying they wouldn't do aliens as x-files did that...and last night's episode, that alone has me . It wasn't little green men or grays and if that's what they mean by aliens---okay. I just figured any alien entity covered aliens. Don't get me wrong, I actually love alien stuff, I just don't know why they'd say that unless they mean the overall arch. Which leads me to wondering if this was truly a stand-alone episode or there's a mythology in it that we haven't seen yet. I remember that from last year, so much episodes tied together and only rewatching it really saw the pieces of the puzzle. I wish we had more P/O in the episode but I did catch Olivia smiling on the phone when she was talking to Peter. At least I swear I did and if I'm imagining it---just nod with me and agree. LOL I need my dose of P/O I did like the special effects. The only bad part was constanly hearing my mom say "look how cool." among other things. At least the scary, gross stuff makes her leave the room so I can watch the show and it's quiet! Not that I need the gross stuff---just saying. | |

| It wasn't alien-conspiracy type aliens, that was a relief. And I loved that sculpture, too, Lez--sort of reminds me of Hathor's glyphs, but inside out....anyone recognize it? And having seen Josh saying - Spoiler:
he figured P/O would happen, since it was a tv show...
I didn't mind not having P/O-ness in this episode. What was written. . . Plus, I think they may have done some episodes targeted to bring in those viewers who aren't familiar with the show, and I think this one would do that. And we have one more episode that won't necessarily be too patterny, and then 2x08 should have a bowlful. I'm more into character than pattern, so it's all good for me as long as the people keep developing, and weird cool stuff happens. And Peter hangs out shirtless.

| Here's a detail of the sculpture, which also looks like it might be a type of musical instrument? The part on the left could be a striker dangling on a cord or chain. Anyone recognize this as something by a known artist? Or have any guesses as to the symbolism? | |

| Hi everyone, I'm very disappointed about this episode. I would like so much they develop the main plot. It could be so rich in endless impossibilities ! *sighs* Well, I'm waiting for the next episode. I remain hopeful that they come back to the mythology... They can't be a new X-Files ! Please, stop these standalone... | |

| I think by introducing Russian Fringe Science, and the CIA's interest in it and Fringe Division, they did develop some long term story stuff. From all the interviews I've read, JJ Abrams etc view both types of episode as being main story--they truly don't consider everything that isn't cortexiphan filler.
They just treat different parts of the story differently. It's not as though the OliviaSuperHero is the real story, and Peter and the fringey crimes in Boston and Seattle are just stuff tacked on to get in your way, all of it is the real story.
They sound in fact a bit relieved to not be doing a clone of Lost or Alias with all those mangled, confused twists. They specifically have said Fringe isn't like the Rambaldi storyline where you need a magnifying glass and an encyclopedia to understand the story.
It slso allows them as writers and filmers to expand their horizons, their capabilities. As an artist, I would not want to have to make only one kind of pottery forever, or only get to make one kind of soap. I want my customers to allow me to explore the full range of what I can with an idea.

| Aw, so sad at the end with Broyles. I'm glad He's coming out more, too, as a character. Was I supposed to read too much in "Ex-Wife's boyfriend" in the closing credits rather than "Ex-Wife's Husband"? She was very touching for only a minute or two onscreen.
Overall, I liked this one more than the "Human Action" episode, at first impression because it gave me more laughing "Boo!" moments, and I liked the stand alone subject of the week. Nice body special effects!
Zero P&O this week. Oh well, I've been warned. *rolls eyes*
Dayum, two "5"s and 2 "6"s? I hope WHEN the next hiatus comes, they start it back up with an Overarcing story episodes. Nobody who prefers the stand alone episodes is going to be visiting/living on tv websites, so I read an overwhelming amount of "boo" comments about the stand alones. *shrug*
