And we saw that the quarantine may indeed be worse than the event they use to justify the quarantine. Something hinky going on there!

I found a video interview with John and Josh, during "Fox Upfronts 2010". They talk about season finale.
Can you tell me what they say, exactly?

Do you think Bell and Walter did that ?

And Newton must be a bit special for a shapeshifter, because it's been a long time he hasn't "shapeshift". FakeCharlie looked extremely bad after six weeks.

It's a bit of Fringe science that makes no sense, that: needing to shift into a body without mercury, and the temporary cure was to drink mercury.

More Fringey/pseudoscience/allegory about Mercury:

The four-stage Work could never have been accomplished
without the so-called Philosophical Mercury, which was the unifying spirit
enlivening the matter, the divine flow without which transmutation was
impossible. Philosophical Mercury was not common mercury, although mercury
could be seen as an image of the philosophical one. The purpose of the whole
alchemical process was in fact, the fixation – solidification of this elusive
spirit, often imagined as a bird.

Text from scan from tv guide:

As the Worlds Turn
Liv and Co. face double trouble in Fringe's bizarro finale

Leave it to Fringe to give us a Season 2 finale that's out of this world. Literally.
"It's called 'Over There,' and we're not kidding" says consulting producer Akiva Goldsman of the episode, which finds Olivia, Walter and several others storming the alterna-verse to find Peter. "We answer a bunch of questions, and try to be congenial and affectionate to the fans. We're not being cute. We're gonna go, 'OK, you waited, you asked...here's the answer.'"
In the two-part trip to the bizarro world, airing May 13 and May 20, the team devises a way to breach the Blight-ridden parallel plane, where Peter has fled after discovering that he was abducted from the other side by a grief-stricken Walter following the 1985 death of his real son.

Bringing him back home, however, is going to take more than just a mea culpa from his pseudo papa. Not only is Pete peeved, but it turns out that his abduction was also the catalyst for a lot of bad blood between the two worlds. "The people over there are just like us, they're as wise and wicked as us, so they see us coming," says John Noble, who has delivered a year's worth of Emmy- caliber work as the haunted Walter Bishop. "There are forces that will try to stop Peter's return at any cost."

Forces like the alternate-and possibly dangerous—versions of our heroes. "The Walter we know is a very .brilliant man whose humanity is being revealed through his mental illness," continues Noble. "The Walter on the other side is also a brilliant man who went another way—he went into politics. Driven by the fact that his son was stolen from him, he became one of the power -houses of the nation. Revenge is a very powerful motivator." Helping his Walternate exact that revenge will be a slew of technological advances unique to the other side, as well as the militant doppelgangers of at least two beloved Federal agents from our.world.
"What's wonderful is the chance to create new characters for our series regulars," says Goldman, giddily hinting that he's cooked up ' some major crazy for leading lady Anna Torv, including a full-on confrontation between Liv and her flip-side self. "I have been obsessed with Olivia from the other side since the first season. Wait until you see her!"
Speaking of confrontations, something else viewers can expect to see is Walter's two-seasons-in-the-making reunion with former lab partner William Bell, who's been cooling his heels on the other side and caus -ing all kinds of scientific chaos for as long as the Fringe Division has been hunting shape-shifters and such. But like most things on a show that boasts dual realities, chrome-domed Observers and a mythology worthy of its myriad Lost comparisons (both shows come from the labyrinthine mind of ],}. Abrams), the Bishop-Bell reunion is complicated.' Especially when it turns out that the besties-turned-adversaries each have something the other needs.
"You actually see the two men working together and finding the Joy of their combined efforts again," explains Noble of their eventual team-up. "You see Walter and William fall back in like with each other."'
• "We liken it to the post-Beatles Paul Mc-Cartney and John Lennon working on a song together," jokes exec producer Jeff Pinkner.
Whether Bell and Bishop can really work it out remains to be seen, considering that even Leonard Nimby, returning for his fourth appearance, isn't so sure that his enigmatic alter ego is to be trusted. "I wouldn't count on anything with William Bell," laughs the Star Trek icon. "You just don't know which way this monkey is gonna fall."
Nor do we know if we'll ever see "Belly" again, once the smoke settles. As Noble puts it, the seemingly sinister scientist "takes us all by surprise and makes an extraordinary sacrifice for the greater good." And .while Noble will only allude to- "a wonderful redeeming moment for the character," anyone who can read between the lines knows that "extraordinary sacrifices" usually spell tragedy. Also upping the odds of a Bell farewell is Nimoy's own recently announced retirement from acting, although the man who was and always will' be Mr. Spock remains logical about the future. "I never say never. JJ. and his producers and writers treated me extremely well on the "Star Trek" movie, and they did a great job. My nature is to want to be involved with-people who can do very good work."
Then he—and the fans—had better keep a close eye on the finale's spectacular closing. moment. Much like last season's OMG pull-away from the still-standing Twin Towers, the shot we're left with this time around is sure to be just as jaw-dropping. "The final scene, when I read it, I thought it was absolutely pure genius," teases Noble. "This is probably the ultimate cliff-hanger."

(<-----click to enlarge) (would you buy a used transporter from this guy?)
SEASON 3 SNEAK PEEK
Before filming on the finale wrapped, the wheels we turning on Season 3. "What next season will be like i; profoundly informed by the last images of the finale says producer Akiya Goldsman. "I'm thrilled with the idea that ends this episode." And we're thrilled that this shocker sets the stage for more trips to the alterna-verse. "It wilt definitely play a role next season," reveals exec producer Joel Wyman, adding that the cast is jazzed to revisit their alternates again. As for potential villains, secrecy on set is tighter than Olivia's ponytails, but exec producer Jeff Pinkner says they may already be among us. "We have met some of them and there will be others to come."

Now, i'm quite sure that Walternate's revange has not to do with his son's sacrifice.
