| I still think that was a continuity problem. They have said several times they weren't going to do time travel. And --- I just like the clearest answer to a problem, if possible. Fringe has been blessedly free of deus ex machina stuff and I hope they continue. We will likely find a bunch of that out tonight, anyway. Here's that Einstein quote, in context, to set the mood: - Quote :
- Einstein completed the general theory of relativity in November 1915 in Berlin, the capital of a nation absorbed in the most destructive war Europe had ever known.
How dreadful was that conflict? Here is a telling anecdote: The painter George Grosz, an acquaintance of Einstein's, was recovering from wounds in Berlin. Told he had to go back to his unit, he tried to drown himself in a latrine: Better dead in a pool of feces than back to the trenches. Worse still, science itself was implicated in the disaster. Einstein's friend Fritz Haber pioneered the use of chlorine gas as a weapon.
Einstein's pacifist view contrasted sharply with Haber's: "Warfare cannot be humanized. It can only be abolished."
In a recently disclosed letter to Heinrich Vangleer, Einstein wrote from Berlin in 1917: " More and more I come to value charity and love of one's fellow being above everything else... All our lauded technological progress-our very civilization-is like the ax in the hand of the pathological criminal."
Doesn't that quote sound like Walter's journey? Maybe completing his father's? - Spoiler:
--from the promos, the skin of the victims looks like cyanide poisoning--Zyclon was Hitler's cyanide gas. I expect this to be riveting; I am glad the story gets re-told, as the folks who lived through all that are mostly gone. I am also glad that my grandfather was gassed with only mustard gas, in the trenches, (in Einstein's time) or I would never have existed.

| Only because I loved this quote: - Quote :
- Fringe (FOX) 9 p.m.
When a group of wedding guests in Massachusetts suffocate from the inside out, the team must find out how the toxin was delivered and targeted.
If Joshua Jackson is in it, I am watching. Period. http://tv.insidepulse.com/2010/01/27/iptv-thursday-vampire-diaries-bones-fringe-tv-previews/

| Dates were in Walter's FBI file and Robert Bishop's grave, and also mentionned in the comics if I recall correctly. I think I've said this theory before in another thread, but maybe that's the gestation theory ? Make it longer, so the brain has more time to improve its capacities in utero ? | |

| Oh, the gestation thingy is not needed.....folks with that kind of IQ are not as rare as you might think. They don't make the news unless they are flashy (like Hawkings) or do awful things. Normal parents, normal childhood, too. If anything could change IQ, it would be nurture after being born: enriching the environment, reading to the kid, that kind of thing. The idea of intellect being odd is ---odd. | |

| No, I meant the gestation thing to explain the period of time between RB's death and WB's birth, not the IQ.... | |

| Or perhaps Robert didn't die then, but later---but as a government agent, had his details covered up. A friend of my parents participated in the Bay of Pigs invasion in the 1960's but the Army destroyed his and his units' records afterwards; it's like they were never there and it never happened. | |

| Could be, and may have chosen this date for a reason, maybe to protect Walter and his mother. | |

| I could totally see secret agent stuff running in the Bishop family!
My parents had a friend who was in the CIA... he has been dead long enough I can speak of him, I think. One time they told his family he was dead, killed in a prison in Egypt, I think, and by the time he was found to have survived, they were working on the memorial service plans. Freaky childhood for the kids.

| At least, treatment of families. And as he got older and they made it clear he could NEVER retire, that was weird. He had wanted Dad to join up with him, I am glad he didn't. | |

| Yeah. It's funny to look back and think of ones' parents as young daredevils. | |
