I doubt seriously not airing it was BR's decision, and perhaps airing it at this particular point now isn't theirs either, so I'm not certain they don't think it's important. If that was the case, I doubt they'd have bothered to film it.
Yes, more a commercial Fox decision.

OK! I'll wait until my wish for trepannation passes to try it.
*looks up trepanation up in the dictionary* Ah, and thanks for the clever new trick for the board, Lez.
That's so funny, you cheering for FOX, Lez. I wouldn't expect you to know this, but the FOX news portion of their network reflects a Far Right political orientation.
In fairness, the Entertainment section of FOX as achieved a reputation for artistic freedom even better than some of the other 3 major networks, (ABC, NBC, CBS). Kal Penn, who used to star on FOX's "House" visited CBS's Craig Ferguson show, and somehow the subject got on people impersonating celebrities on MySpace, Twitter, FaceBook. Kal Penn said FOX's lawyers shut those shenanigans down fast. That's not the same as people who say up front they're TheFakeJoshJackson, or someone like that. Supposedly some of the funniest Twitter feeds are folks who are FakeThis or FakeThat celebrity. *coughs, gets back on topic.*

Two things: trepannation in my case refers to my urge to drill a hole in my skull... this makes sense to migraineurs only, I hope. As it is getting worse, not better, I will be taking myself to bed shortly, with an icepack. That moving text gave me big silvery swirlies floating at about arms' length, hard to see around.
And---I thought Lez was being satirical. . .
(and thank heavens I cannot see Fox news, our affiliate doesn't carry it except on Sunday mornings, if I recall. Luckily the fox news channel is cable only. Bleh.)

I can't wait to see if I was right about someone looking like Walter in a body bag.... And to have a better look on the written things on the back of a car..... !!!

Ohhh, as if to make this even worse, here's the official FOX press release:
Quote :
GIRL WITH UNEXPECTED TIES TO A MISSING SOLDIER
REQUIRES SOME FRINGE INTERVENTION
ON A SPECIAL UNEARTHED EPISODE FROM SEASON ONE OF “FRINGE”
AIRING FOR FIRST TIME MONDAY, JANUARY 11, ON FOX
After a teenage girl is pronounced brain dead, her mother takes her off life support, but when doctors operate quickly to remove her organs, the deceased girl shockingly awakens screaming an alphanumeric code. Equally as perplexing as her resurrection is that she is now somehow able to speak Russian and possesses classified information only a high-ranking soldier would know. While the girl’s mind-bending condition intensifies, Walter dusts off some old lab videos and hypothesizes the unthinkable, sending Olivia and Peter to investigate the bewildering case in an original “Unearthed” episode of FRINGE – and here’s another mystery: is it an unaired episode from Season One or is it from an alternate universe? – airing Monday, Jan. 11 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (FR-121) (TV-14 L, V)
Cast: Anna Torv as Olivia Dunham; Joshua Jackson as Peter Bishop; John Noble as Walter Bishop; Lance Reddick as Phillip Broyles; Kirk Acevedo as Charlie Francis; Blair Brown as Nina Sharp; Jasika Nicole as Astrid Farnsworth

Duh, if it's got Peter in it, it's from our universe. But, relatively cute marketing ploy on Fox's part, as they are still unwilling to explain why it didn't air before.
I think there might be some really strong Russian fringe science thread they are building on for later, and wanted to tie that in more....cold war makes a nice paralell to the war between the universes, which looks to be a cold war not a hot one.

Maybe it's from another, not the two we have actually. So it would be a third universe.
I know they said they would stick to two universes, but maybe they said that after shooting this episode, when they saw that talking about several universes was too confusing, and decided to stay with only two different worlds ?
Could be considered as a special episode, an alter, some kind of extra, bonus.

I'm pretty sure they are sticking with the just two, for any number of reasons...the main one being they are having trouble getting around to doing too much with two, let alone finessing using three. Plus it would make BR look like a liars in what they tell the public about the show.
I think they are sticking this episode in now because they realize they need all the help they can get, and that the long hiatuses really bug the faithful.
I know they can't do anything about the Olympics, but that's got to be hard on them. It seems like they didn't quite think out the whole Vancouver thing... unless it is so much cheaper to film there that having an enforced hiatus in late winter was fine with them... taking big chances on viewership though.
Why this episode didn't air last year, though, that is the strange thing. I can see contractual obligations forcing them to show it, but why not show it originally? That's network maybe, or producer/BR stuff... maybe showing it now has to do with honoring Charlie's contract (his true name escapes me at the moment), his episodes might have to be shown... could be SAG stuff. I would think too Canada is better about enforcement of union rules than the US, and if it was filmed in Vancouver while the front office was still in NY, there might have been hassles over that.
It seems more likely to me that it is that kind of thing, than smart ninja storytelling stuff. Too ham-handed for that.

Does it reveal too much ? Or did they have plan this all along ?
