Do you have a quote from Walter?
I refer to the mythology.
- The Observers looking for Peter - Peter tells Olivia that Walter is responsable of bad things in the world - Walter says that Peter is capable of terrible things - Olivia looking for Peter - Olivia and Peter, two lost souls...
It's interesting, isn't it?

Peter's phrasing is a mirror of Olivia's about her stepfather: "Now I know, that he is not responsible for all the bad things in this world, but he is responsible for some of them." --And bless his heart, Peter did not try to shush her over that, not try to diminish what her stepfather had done.. I think Olivia will grant Peter the same over Walter.
I was wondering too, if Walter is saying Peter or the heart he has stolen, or hearts in general, are "capable of wodrous things"--could be his confession about what he has done, too. (I don't find Walter saying Peter is capable of doing terrible things, is that in another clip?) Though of course the heart is capable of both, and Peter probably is too (may have already done some, we only speculate).
They are lost souls it's true enough for the story, isn't it? And their worlds surely are colliding, in more than one way.

Quote :
Fringe Does Musical Noir. Wait, What? That device is Walter relating a story, "Princess Bride"-style, that casts Olivia (Anna Torv) as a hard-boiled detective and Peter as the tough guy for whom she's searching. "We felt it was a way to get across Walter's [frame of mind] and where his head is right now with his son missing," fellow exec producer J.H. Wyman says. "There's a very good reason why it's noir. It's because of [Walter's] own history and things like that, which you'll see."
"It really deepened and blew the episode out even further in the direction we were already taking," he says. "... This episode provided an opportunity to hold a mirror up to Walter's perspective of the world and these individuals -- Olivia, Peter and Astrid [Jasika Nicole] -- that he interacts with. We get his fractured take on the world and his condition now that Peter has left.

While I listen and scribble, here's some of what she told the tvaddict a little while ago:
Spoiler:
“After coming to grips that this other universe exists, Astrid’s immediate reaction was, I need to be there for him, for Walter, because she knows what a downfall this is going to have for his relationship with both Peter and Olivia,” explains Nicole with regards to what fans can expect from the aftermath. “She knows that Walter’s been kind of abandoned often throughout his live because of the things he’s done, he’s hurt people and now he’s completely immersed himself in people’s lives and she just wants to be there with him.” After-all, if there is one person who might possibly be able to understand the difficult choices one must make in the name of science, it’s Astrid. Whose loyalty to Walter has become one of her defining and most endearing qualities. A quality which will not surprisingly be put to good use as the season reaches a conclusion. “You actually get to see it later, in an episode that hasn’t aired of course, where it’s just Astrid and Walter kind of hanging out in the lab because Peter doesn’t want to have anything to do with him, he’s really hurt. So she’s just trying to help keep him in a good place because who knows what will happen.” says the actress facetiously. Because let’s face it, if there is one person who knows exactly what will happen… it’s the woman who just recently had the pleasure of reading the jaw-dropping season finale script that has Astrid meeting what we’re poorly dubbing “Alterstrid!”
