| Or perhaps it is a widely held belief? That that's the reason for those shivers? And I like the idea of that direction being given, when it alludes deep in its guts to different realities. | |

I've asked, and yes, it is used, I think that's the exact translation from english. Most used is : Quelqu'un est en train de marcher sur ma tombe. Cela m'a fait froid dans le dos is more it sent shivers down my spine to me .

| The phrase for English means the thing when you have shivers but you don't know why.....involuntary, something is happening you're not aware of but your innards know it's not good. (This is the acting note given to Josh, that started this discussion: he is reacting physiologically, but not consciously.)
Whereas, "it sent shivers down my spine" is in English for when you do know what caused you to feel spooked.
Very apt discussions for nearly Halloween!

| Not really used, to be honest, I've heard it once in my life, but that's it.
I use "Les oreilles doivent lui siffler / J'ai les oreilles qui sifflent" more often, even if the meaning is different.

| I just meant, maybe that would remind you of something you were familiar with in French. Funny how much of our idioms are still dependent upon where and amongst whom we were raised.
I grew up here in the mountains, and can speak logging and farming and hunting----but my stepfather came from a whaling family and was a doctor, so I also speak fishing and medical stuff too.
One of my favorite terms for needing to stop messing around, or to get a clear head, is "You need to get the seaweed out of your nets!"

| It's got a simpler cousin: "Clear your gear!!" | |

| Would you shout 'Shake your doormat!" at someone who was not paying attention, who was caught up in other things than the present moment? Clear your gear, and the seaweed thing, are ---is imperative the word I want?-- sort of commands. | |

| No, no, I say that to everyone who keep everything for themselves. "Shake your doormat outside" for people who take it on me. | |

"Shake your doormat outside" for people who take it on me. So that is something said when someone is being secretive, or hoarding? And I don't understand the latter sentence.
