| OMG. Two things, for now.
1). Listen to your Auntie Elliot; she can hear when the ball's in the air. That couch footage from the promo was gaslighting.
2). It's like they've used an invention of Walter's that makes your emotions run backwards; smiley scenes make me nauseous, people hugging make me laugh out loud, people typing make me want to throw an axe.

| I can't wait; I don't do the usual searching for glyphs and observers, as y'all know, it's all direct, hit the ground running stuff. Why yes, I do wear my heart right there on my sleeve. This episode hit me like a ton of bricks; I was relieved to see we got our reprieve (I remain your humble servant, qbsp, Mr. Pinkner!), very impressed with Peter's subway scene, and cried through most of the show. Please, hurry through all this sadness, ok, BR? --------so, here's my thoughts: There were excellent things; the Benchwarmers’ reprieve; Peter’s action hero scene (about damn time!); the gorgeous, heart-stopping,northern-lights gone metallic shots of him disarming that infernal box;the blessed phone company from the Great Beyond that is clearly a network for Benchwarmers; and the growing authority and depth of Astrid. The disappointments? The the cheesy horror of Fakelivia getting profiles and courses in passing as Ourlivia, and the telegraphing of Newton’s killing spree. But, oh my god, Torv’s FakeLivia is almost a match for the malignity of Newton. She killed that guy like squashing a bug. She is really nothing like Peter’s Olivia. It’s a fantastic portrayal, and I want it over as fast as it can be. I hate her, and want my Olivia home now. Surely the shiftiness of FakeOlivia's eyes, her blankness, her lack of memory skills, the black crater where her heart ought to be, ought to give her away! Nothing on Fringe has never so much as made me queasy, blood and parasites don’t bother me. But seeing Fakelivia with Peter made me sick to my stomach. And realizing she and Newton and WalterNot are luring him and Walter…… it’s horrific. Fringe is being excellent as a horror show, but please Bad Robot, don’t make the whole season this dark. At least, once Peter realizes how coolly, easily, Fakelivia and Newton kill, as directed by his “father”, he will snap out of his snit at Walter, who is clearly the only man deserving to be called Peter’s father. And for the love of all things rational and irrational, please dear Bad Robot, don’t drag out the ‘will Peter forgive Walter’ stuff. They have a world to save, and time’s a-wastin’. #Fringe#Season 3#The Box#Joshua Freaking Jackson -action hero! ------questions: what was in Nina's envelope? Could she have been less happy to hug Walter? What will she do now that he's her boss? Is it just too precious to have him inherit MD? --------------------------> speaking of filthy lucre, where did the FD lair that Peter got for them last season, that we saw in the finale, go? | |

| I want to smack the smile off AltLiv's face every time I see it. Actually, I just want to smack her.
And I have never loved Olivia's cell phone as much as I have in this episode.

| I KNOW!! The phone company in general are definitely benchwarmers. I think that must be "Jeff P and Joel W phone co." (grins madly). | |

| Selfishly jumping forward so I won't be influenced until I 'cast my vote', that was a solid 10! I'm no longer upset about Olivianate (if we're using 'Walternate' as a primer for the doubles). Anna Torv's done a fine job showing the other personality as detached, pretty pragmatic in all her decisions. That was startling, how she lept into the tunnel with the risk of dying by the ultrasound machine, because Peter's so important as the singular detonator in the Machine. Why are parts hidden over here. Belly perhaps did that? And what a nice reminder that we all die, the Will reading, no matter how impersonal, ended very nicely. Hi Blair! The final report highlighted how important "he's engaged" was, but I think she's going to have more trouble with Walter. And Walter should be able to see that this Olivia doesn't have that child-like wonder that helps 'our' Olivia propel her adult motivation. Or that's the way I see her. She acts restrained, to the dismay of a lot of "Fringe" fans. But either "Olivia" fans like me see how this side's Olivia takes on a little too much of the world's woes on her shoulders, thinking she can fix them, or I project my own aspirations into her as a superhero. I know that word, superhero, sets some fans off, they want her to be human, but the challenges this science fiction show present are *I hear a Saturday Night Live character saying* "Really Hard!" and it takes more than a regular human to beat them. "Life is Joy. Death is Peace. The transition is hard.", or something like that. I hope the quote was Issac Isimov, he was the first writer to really inspire me to love science fiction. Science Fiction today could be science fact tomorrow, and of course we're in a span of time that's allowing us to see some of the technological advancement. *s**** air through teeth* Now see, "Angel" gave him control of Wolfram & Hart, but they couldn't decide how they wanted to go with it, Angel seemed awkward as a CEO. It didn't help the show, omnipotent corporate power seemed like too much of a weapon against overpowering evil. *sigh* I just hope the writers and Jeff Pinkner can make it work. "The Box", Excellent! Mr. Cathy's going back to watch the first one, I didn't catch Jeff Pinkner wrote it first viewing! That cab driver intrigued me, I just wasn't sure someone would give escaped Olivia a chance like that...... | |

| "The phone company's a Benchwarmer" Whoa, Elliot, great way to jump in there with the moment to moment impressions. Obviously, I like those the most! "AltLiv", I like that, that's better than some I can come up with. "AltLiv" is establishing herself as a solid character. She wasn't drinking at the bar, P/O is slightly enabling with the alcohol, if nothing else! I'm enjoying what Anna Torv is doing with her a lot. I just can't wait for that "Step back" moment when one of the other three realize she's not Olivia. My money's now on Walter. "Distraction" Olivia wouldn't call it that, after her romantic declaration. Some of the differences between the two are glaring, but the audience gets to see things nobody else does, that's fun. I laughed out loud when she saw the blood seeping out from under the door. Um, situational comedy? Of course she's easy to hate, but that was still pretty cool, how she flew into the tunnel in the face of possible death. The Fringe science was awesome, how effective sound could be. Harmonics, like Figaro vs. rock music, ....."And that would be a problem because" Several Benchwarmers I know would spontaneously combust! Altliv is a strong character, regardless of how I feel about her...... | |

| Thanks Cathy! "If we don't stop /And that would be a problem" was from a different episode, I think. If you looked closely at that promo, it was not said in the couch scene, that was a voiceover cut from another scene. Maybe they cut it out of good sense, or maybe it came from a different ep, but I'm glad either way. - Quote :

Peter's idea--that there are two of everything (excepting of course, massive dynamic!! cue shark music!0---two old races, one for each dimension, making two simultaneous infernal machines, I think---maybe the Observers took away some parts from Bad Walter's world once they saw what he was up to? - Quote :
- *s**** air through teeth* Now see, "Angel" gave him control of Wolfram & Hart, but they couldn't decide how they wanted to go with it, Angel seemed awkward as a CEO. I know, it smacks too much of a kid inheriting a candy store.... did you see Walter almost walk into that room with the plasma device? I BLOODY HATED what they did to Angel, and the wolfram and hart thing was a travesty. Turning off the tv was the kindest answer. Fringe better zig where that zagged.
But then, what in creation did happen to the FD lair that Peter's insistence got for them last year? Maybe MD can fund that, since the congress is pressing them for results all the time? I still think, and prefer, Olivia as a real human, not a superhero. Both because making her a superhero with the abuses done to her is repugnant and denies her the ability to be the subject, not the object; and because her cooler, restrained person can flower, and was starting to. My favorite science fiction does not rely on super powers (I've always disliked sci-fantasy), but on the innate strengths of "weak" humans. Have you read Ursula LeGuin? The Left Hand of Darkness has a lot of parallels here, I think. That techno-monstrosity Newton tells Olivia her emotional concern for Walter and Peter is her weakness, but he is dead wrong. It's her strength. But he's not human, so to him it would look like a weakness. Olivia has taken the world on her shoulders because it was put there by others, but it does not belong there. Just because a couple of crazed, scared men forced her to carry their burden doesn't make it hers----- any more than a crazed scared man and the inventors of whatever that machine is make Peter really part of it. Either Fringe is about choice, or it isn't; and if it is, both she and Peter have the choice to do as they see right with their powers. Olivia and Peter need to check out the last season of Buffy and see how to make power work for everyone, and how to negate the evil of a watcher's bequest. Huh--Walter needs to see it too.

| So.... is Walternate planning on getting Peter to blow up this universe from this side, by giving in to his curiosity? Do you suppose that perhaps the documents linking peter to the infernal machine are not a prophecy but a warning, that the Observers knew the First Tech was going to be subverted by Walternate, with fake prophecy pages to entrap Peter? Since so far, everything we have been shown can go in a bunch of different directions? | |

| .............wait. The deaf guy sees FakeLivia Dunham's name on her badge? That's some serious eyesight.
And then he doesn't give her the box there and then, he waits and researches and goes to her apartment?
LAME LAME LAME-O, to quote Nathan Fillion.
Really stretching to get the "have to distract Peter with FakeLivia's boobies" scene.

| He wouldn't have been able to spell from reading her lips (which he did otherwise, of course). They focus on her badge, she is looking up at the wall while talking, he is looking down the alley----either reading her lips or the badge from that distance is improbable at best. ------the folks at the AV club agree: - Quote :
- It turns out that the man is named Blake, and that he survived thewicked wonders of The Box because he’s deaf. But he’s suitably freakedout by what he saw in Milton, so when he spots Faux-livia’s badge asshe’s standing outside the typewriter shop, he turns The Box over toher, thinking that he’s surrendering to the proper authorities.Instead, she shoots him.
